Dale Carl Brinkhous (1936-2012)

Dale Carl Brinkhous was born August 14, 1936 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to George and Rachel Brinkhous. He served in the United States Air Force stationed in England, traveling to northern Europe as a courier. He attended the University of Nebraska where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. He was a registered pharmacist for 42 years. From 1974 to 1991 he owned Family Drug, an independent pharmacy in Eugene, Oregon, and continued work until 2006 as a semi-retired pharmacist for several local pharmacies. On August 19, 1962 he married Judy Jones of Lincoln, Nebraska, with whom he shared the next 50 years. They were blessed by a daughter born in McCook, Nebraska, a son born in Rawlins, Wyoming, and four grandchildren. Dale was a member of Jaycees, Elks and Lions clubs. He was active in the local Cub Scout pack 280 and Boy Scout troop 71. He served as a past president of the Lane County Pharmaceutical Association, and on Governor Straub's advisory committee for medical assistance to the underprivileged. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, square dancing, theatre, and playing golf, but most of all he loved spending time with family and friends, camping, enjoying summer barbecues, and playing cards and board games. Dale is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judith Brinkhous; daughter Kim Turner, son and daughter in law Mark Brinkhous and Kimberly Overgard, grandchildren Tyler and Amber Turner and Jack and Annabelle Brinkhous, all of Eugene, OR; one sister Ruth Albin of Keller, TX; sister in law, Carolyn Bjerkelund of Vancouver WA. Dale is survived by many nieces and nephews, some of whom Dale was like a father to, Dawn Wofford of Woodland, CA, Aaron Bjerkelund of Lakewood, WA, Leah Bingham of Salem, OR and Jason Bjerkelund of Vancouver, WA. Preceding Dale in death was one brother Dean Brinkhous of Broken Arrow, OK. Dale passed away peacefully at home with his family at the age of 75 from complications of Parkinson's disease on Saturday, March 24, 2012.
