She graduated from Dalton HS in 1956 and went to Agnes Scott College and then to Georgia Tech for her Masters as a student in her 40's.
She and John Marion Shirley married in 1957 in Bainbridge, GA.
John attended and graduated from Georgia Tech. In 1962 their only child, Jan, was born.
She was counselor at Agnes Scott until her death from cancer.
