Laura Swihart, 80, of 58781 Ox Bow Court, died at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2001 at Elkhart General Hospital after an extended illness.
Mrs. Swihart, the daughter of Albert J. and Helen (Martin) Mansfield, was born in Fostoria, Ohio, on March 2, 1921. She married Gail M. Swihart and Elkhart on August 24, 1937, and he died August 28, 1982.
She is survived by a son, Gregory of Elkhart; two daughters, Nikki, I Ganger of Elkhart and Mrs. James P. (Janice) Reber of Union; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five brothers, Russell, Ernest, Roland, Walter and Gayle Mansfield, all of Ohio; and a sister, Betty Lou Hill of Ohio.
Four brothers, Leonard, Clifford, Victor and Albert G. Mansfield and three sisters, Viola Hamm, Mildred Retcher and Anna M. Mansfield, are deceased.
Friends may call from six to 8 p.m. today at Billings Funeral Home, where the service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Reverend Clare Schumm will officiate, and entombment will be at Rice Cemetery.
Mrs. Swihart formerly worked in Needle Craft Inc., where she was a tacking machine operator and retired after 16 years with the company. Memorials may be given to the Elkhart County Humane Society or the American Diabetes Association.
