Gilbert Melvin Rose Sr., 67, of Nampa, died Friday, Nov. 24, 1989, at his home of natural causes. Gilbert was born Sept. 16, 1922, in Caldwell, Idaho to Guy and Nettie Williams Rose. He was reared and educated in the Huston, Idaho area and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1940. He then attended the Idaho State College in Pocatello, where he completed electronics school. Gilbert married Mary Elaine Fisher on Feb. 28, 1943, in Nampa. In November of that year he entered the U.S. Navy and served during WWII. While in the Navy he graduated from the U.S. Navy Radio Technical Schools as a radio and radar technician. He was honorably discharged in December of 1945 and returned to Nampa where they have since resided. He co-established Idaho's first television station, KFXD TV, in 1953. He then worked for KFXD and Channel 2 for many years. He was an electronics engineer and consultant until his retirement. All of his life he has had a unique talent and innovative insight for electronics and related fields. He was also a very loving husband, father and grandfather. Gilbert was a member of the Deer Flat Free Methodist Church and a member of the Nampa American Legion, Joseph H. Murray, Post No. 18. He was also a ham radio operator.

He is survived by his wife of Nampa; two sons, Gilbert M. Rose Jr. and Laurence C. Rose, both of Boise; five daughters, Mary Lou Serr, Provo, Utah, Sally Ann Parisi, Thousand Oaks Calif., Betty Jill Monroe, Republic, Wash., Robin Jean Riedel, Burley, Idaho, and Lisa Annette Jordan, Newburry Park, Calif., two brothers, Glen H. Rose, Boise, and Delbert L. Rose, Meridian; two sisters, Grace E. Chaloupka, Parma, and Phyllis M. Weiss, Meridian; 11 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one beloved brother, Wayne A. Rose.
