She taught at a private school in her home until the Civil War, when she enlisted as an army nurse. She then bought a home at the corner of Madison Street and South Crouse Avenue in Syracuse where she lived for 20 years. Her brother Harvey kept the Jervis House in the city.
Shortly after 1887 she was given a pension for her war work. She lived in poverty in her later years and died in the "Old Ladies' Home" which she entered around 1887. She never married.
