Henry was the fourth of eight children of William P and Lucinda Allen. He enlisted in the 28th NY "Niagara Rifles, Scotts Guards" on one week before his 19th birthday. He fought with Company D through the battles of the spring of 1862. Henry was killed in action during the ill fated Union assault on Jackson's line at Cedar Mountain on August 9, 1862.
