During this Lenten season on March 29, 2012, Joachim Andre Charles Lance C de Baca, age 32 has gone home to rest. Andre was born on May 23, 1979 to Joseph and Agnes C de Baca, the youngest of five, three brothers and a sister. Andre was lifelong resident of Pecos.
Andre was a member of the Church family of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Pecos. Andre attended Pecos Independent Schools, enjoying the love of learning and discovery in science. Andre especially enjoyed participating in sports and was a world competitor in cross-country by running in Australia and England. Upon completing high school in 1997, Andre joined the United States Marines Corps. While in the United States Marines, he attained meritorious recognition in outstanding conduct and performance of his duties. After his service in the military he attended Wyoming Tech in Laramie, WY, graduating with an Associate's Degree in Body Modification and Fabrication. Andre returned to New Mexico where he continued with his passion for metal working. Andre loved spending time with his friends and family, working on his truck, hunting, and making people laugh. His love for his nieces and nephews was seen at all sporting events they competed in, especially running, where he could be seen running and cheering for the Pecos athletes. Andre was best loved for his kind heart and willingness to do anything for anyone.
Andre was preceded in death by his brother, Brian Cabeza de Vaca, grandparents, Paul and Rufina Martínez and Frank and Jenny C de Baca, his uncle, Leonard C de Baca, cousin, Angelique LaMon and dear friends, Orlando Lucero, Davie Quintana and Diego Gonzáles.
Andre is survived by his loving family, his parents, brothers, Rudy (Anita) and Paul (Lisa), sisters, Nazare Mondragón (Lorenzo) and Melinda Cabeza de Vaca – beloved nephews and nieces, Paul "PJ", Cassandra, Camille, Isaiah, Mone, Dominic, Janelle, Ana Maria and Estevan, God-daughters, Cassandra C de Baca and Savannah Ortiz and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Visitation will take place at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Pecos, NM from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, with a Rosary to follow at St. Anthony's Catholic Church beginning at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Catholic Church starting at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2012. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery immediately after the Mass. Reception immediately following at Casa De Herrera. Pallbearers will be PJ C de Baca, Isaiah Mondragón, Dominic Cabeza de Vaca, Fabian López, Anthony Gonzáles, Orlando Trujillo, Wesley Martínez and Adrian LaMon. Honorary Pallbearers will be Andres Barros, Rick McWilliams, Miquella Herrera, Vinny Rodríguez, Isidro Gonzáles and Victoria Gonzáles.
