Edwin honorably for 23 years in the U.S. Navy. Soon after the 8 Dec 1941 Imperial Japanese invasion of the Philippines, the War Department reported him 'missing in action'. He remained MIA for more than 15 months before the Japanese forwarded a pre-printed typewritten card signed by him. He was captured on Corregidor Island on 6 May 1942 by the Japanese and liberated from a Japanese POW camp on 9 Sep 1945. After retiring from the Navy, he resided in Astoria, Oregon. He moved back to Miller where he worked as a Rural Mail Carrier before transferring to Mitchell, South Dakota, where he retired from Civil Service.
