Jack was a graduate of U. S. Military Academy at West Point, class of 1963.
He was accidentally killed by friendly troops.


Scott City - Funeral services for Marine First Lt. Jack O. Eitel, 23, will be conducted in the First Baptist Church, Scott City, 10: 30 am. Saturday, with the Rev. G. Estel Hines officiating.

Lt. Eitel was fatally shot by the Viet Cong as he headed a patrol near Chu Lai, Viet Nam, July 8.

He was born July 27, 1941, in Scott County and graduated from Scott County Community High School and received a congressional appointment to West Point in 1959.

Upon graduation from West Point in 1963 he received his commission in the Marine Corps. He married Karen Mollhagen June 15, 1963 in Scott City.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church Windward Kailua, Hawaii; Masonic Lodge, Scott City and national Sojourners.

Survivors include the widow; daughter, Kelly Elizabeth, of the home; parents, Mr and Mrs. Orval Eitel, Scott City; brothers, Robert, Scott, City Glen, Cushing, Okla.; sister, Darlene, Scott City.

Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, with military and Masonic graveside rites.
