Carl B. McFarland, of Marshallton, president of the Chamber of Commerce of West Chester, passed away at 7:15 o'clock last evening, in his 54th year, at the Chester County Hospital, where he had been a patient at various intervals since last October.

The son of the late Harry J. and Hannah F. McFarland, he was born in Marshallton and resided all his life in Chester County. For the past eight years he was associated with Wyeth Inc., holding the position of Assistant Supervisor of Production. Prior to this employment, he had been superintendent in this vicinity for the American Stores for 28 years. He had taken an active interest in the Chamber of Commerce having been a member of the organization for many years when it was known ad the Board of Trade. On January 24, 1950, he assumed the presidency at the annual dinner of the Chamber of Commerce, at the V.F.W. Hall.

He was a member of the West Chester Rotary Club; Kennett Lodge No. 475, F. & A.M.; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Green Tree Club, and Marshallton Methodist Church.

A man pleasing in personality, Mr. McFarland had many friends in the community who enjoyed his friendship and business association.

Surviving are his wife, Alice P., and three children, Annetta wife of P. Edward Jefferis; Virginia, wife of Walter A. Woodward, and Carl, Jr., and five grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. Philip Brooks, of Somerville, N.J., and Miss Gertrude McFarland, of Philadelphia, also survive. A brother, Warren, died several years ago.

McFARLAND- In Chester County Hospital, on May 11, Carl B., husband of Alice P. McFarland, in the 54th year of his age.

Relatives and friends of the family and all organizations of which he was a member are invited to attend the funeral without further notice from the Hicks Funeral Home, 229 S. High St., West Chester, on Sunday, May 14 at 2 p.m. Interment in Bradford Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday evening.
