Obituary:
Miss Mary Marida Howe passed away at her home, 8 miles south of Shelbyville (Illinois), Thursday, May 11, 1933, at the age of 53 years, 2 months and 2 days, after a long and lingering illness from a complication of diseases. She had been in failing health for about a year, but was seriously sick only the last few weeks.
Funeral services were held at the home at 3:00 o'clock Saturday, May 13. Burial was in the Howe Cemetery.
The deceased was born March 9, 1880, at Coyville, Wilson County, Kansas. Daughter of J. R. Tom Howe and Mary L. Gillaspey Howe. She was reared in the community in which she lived and was highly esteemed and admired by all who knew her, having formerly taught school in Shelby county for a number of years. She gave up her teaching to care for her aged father and monther. Her father preceded her in death about 7 years ago, and she has sicne been caring for her mother, who still survives. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Penny McKittrick of Tower Hill, andfour brother, John Calvin, Mark M., and Seth O. Howe, all of Shelby county, and Roy Howe of Centerville, South Dakota. One sister, Mrs. Ora Reed of Beecher City, preceded her in death four years ago. She also leaves a host of friends and relatives to mourn her death.
