Edward, my father, was the son of Polish immigrants who arrived in America in 1907. They settled in Chicago, where my father was born in 1915, the 3rd of 4 children. He served in the Army during WWII from 1942-1945 as a Warrant Officer, making the rank of Corporal. He returned to Chicago and married my mother, Rita Barrigan, on 30 August 1950. They had 2 children - myself and my sister. My father worked for Kraft Foods for many years, and then worked for the Milwaukee Railroad as a dock worker loading freight trains. When he retired they moved to Wheeling, Illinois where they lived close to my sister and were able to enjoy several grandchildren. His health failed him in the last decade of the 20th century and he suffered a heart attack and then was diagnosed with bone cancer. He died in 12 February 2001 at Northwest Community Hospital. My father was a reserved, rather quite man who kept his thoughts to himself and did his duty.
