Fran was raised and educated in North Dakota. She and Alliston "Lee" Layton married Dec. 16, 1967, in Great Falls. She worked for many years at the 4B's Restaurant and Rodney Street News in Helena. She also worked at the Missouri Inn in Cascade County and owned Fran's Café in Wolf Creek.
Fran's hobby was baking. She was a member of the Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Marvin Roeder and Albert Layton; daughter Kathlyn Hagen; grandson Kevin Dempsey; her parents; and numerous brothers and sisters. Fran is survived by daughters Lenore Glover of Kingman, Ariz., Debbie Layton of Missoula, and Marsha Layton of Polson; brother Tim Wolf of Reno, Nev.; sisters, Glady Junts, Yakima, Wash., Delores Castleberry, St. George, Utah; grandchildren Becky Allen of Missoula, Curt Hagen, Kalispell, Chris Hagen, Columbia Falls, Jerry Hagen, Whitefish, Mike Dempsey, Helena, Lori Roeder, Craig, Mark Roeder, Helena, and Scott Wildish, Boulder; and 10 great-grandchildren.
