Sigrid was born to Norwegian parents who taught her early the value of heritage. An enjoyable event in her life was the trip to Norway she took with her sister, daughter and son-in-law in 1997. Very important to Sig were her church and the customs of her family. Sigrid graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., in 1936 with a degree in English and spent eight years teaching high school in Eastern Montana and Minnesota. After her marriage to Duane at the end of World War II, they lived in Anaconda for 25 years where they operated a Gamble Store and raised their family. During their retirement, Sig and Duane lived in Bozeman and Mesa, Ariz., before moving to Townsend in 1993. Following Duane's death, Sig made her home in Helena at Hunter's Pointe and The Beehive Homes for three years before moving to the Broadwater Health Center in 2003.

In addition to teaching Sunday school for many years in her church, Sig also was involved in sewing clothing for the children of migrant workers in Arizona and sewing quilts to send overseas for Lutheran World Relief. She was a member of WELCA, Hospital Auxiliary, Garden Club, and volunteered in the Townsend Schools and at the hospital. Sig's life was filled with service to others and baking cookies for children of all ages.
