He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Following his discharge Chet studied photographic art at the Chicago School of Art in Chicago, where he met and married Vera L. "Willie" Williammee on Feb. 21, 1947. Willie preceded him in death on March 17, 2004.

They moved to Beach, N.D., and adopted a son, David A. Dreher in 1949.

The family moved to Helena in 1958 when Chet was hired to establish the aerial photography unit at the Montana Highway Department. They lived in Helena since, less a four year stint in Missoula while Chet served as the supervisor of Information Services at the University of Montana from 1966 to 1970.

He's survived by his son Dave and his wife, Gail, of Helena; grandchildren, Michelle Dreher-Weishaar and husband Mark, Ryan Dreher, Dave Dreher and fiancé Rachel Peterson and great-grandson Jace Weishaar, all of Bismarck, N.D.; step-grandchildren Joel Pilcher and wife, Tammy, Jena Anderson (Pilcher) and husband Clint, great-grandchildren Kayla, Logan and Lane Pilcher and Brady Anderson, and Clint's children, Cody and Makensie Anderson, all of Helena.

Chet was the foundation of his family, the role model for them all. He was admired by all who knew him for his honesty and integrity, he will be greatly missed.
