OTTAWA — Harold D. "Bud" Brewer, 87, departed this life Thursday, March 29, and his wife of 57 years, Charlotte J. Brewer, 78, joined him Sunday, April 1, at their home in Ottawa, surrounded by their loving family.

Funeral services for Harold and Charlotte will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 5, at Gladfelter Funeral Home with the Rev. John Nordstrom officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park with military rites by the Ottawa Veterans Organization. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Cassi Valdez Bartolotta, Danielle Leipold, Jeremiah, Joey and David Brewer and Bobby Valdez.

Harold D. Brewer was born April 26, 1924, in Batavia, a son of David and Della Irene (Balcom) Brewer. Charlotte J. Brewer was born July 3, 1933, in Dayton, a daughter of John T. and Nellie Mae (Moss) Cox. The couple were married April 5, 1955, in Ottawa. They renewed their wedding vows in 2005.

Surviving are their children, David (Laurie) Brewer and Debbie Valdez of Ottawa and Tammy Peterson of Marseilles. They also leave grandchildren, Jeremy (Cheri) Brewer, Joey (Kim) Brewer, Danielle Leipold, Cassi Jo Valdez Bartolotta, Dustin and Heather Brewer; great-grandchildren, Darbi Leipold and Noah, Miah, Brody, Lucy and Lilly Brewer; a nephew, Billy Winders, along with numerous other nieces and nephews; and Harold's best friend Raymond Voyles.

Harold is survived by a sister, Alice (Paul) Henson of Piedmont, Mo. Charlotte is survived by a brother, Sheldon "Sonny" Cox of Streator and a sister, Doris (Bill) Dressen of Fort Myers, Fla.

The couple were preceded in death by their parents and two sons, Danny and Larry Brewer. Harold was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Ed Brewer and two sisters, Delores Thomas and Doris Tipton. Charlotte was preceded in death by a brother, John T. Cox Jr., and a sister, Beverly Winders.

Harold retired from Libbey-Owens-Ford after 40 years. He proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps in a B-24 as part of the 43rd Bomb Group in the Southwest Pacific during World War II. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed carpentry and built several houses over the years.

Charlotte was a retired employee of Owens Bottling in Streator.

They both loved their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their entire family and deeply cherished time spent with each other.
