Susan Elizabeth Beckman was the daughter of Theodore W. "Dora" Beckman and Louisa O'Brien. She was born 14 March 1867 in North Glade, Garrett County, Maryland. On 10 September 1890, Susan "Sue" married Herman Steiding.

The children of Herman and Sue were: Annie Louise Steiding, Bessie Beulah Steiding, Dora Virginia Steiding, Keith James Steiding, Marie Elizabeth Steiding, and Herman Herbert Steiding, Sr.

Sue died in 1959 in Swanton, Garrett County, Maryland. Susan "Sue" Steiding was buried beside her husband Herman in Deer Park Cemetery and above their graves is their daughter Annie Louise (Steiding) and her husband Levi Glotfelty.
