BAR HARBOR and SOUTHWEST HARBOR - Dorothy Elizabeth Ballard Clark, 95, of Southwest Harbor, passed away at Sonogee Living Center in Bar Harbor, Thursday, July 28, 2005, after a series of small strokes over the past year. She was born Jan. 30, 1910, in Washburn, second of 13 children of Harry F. and Abbie (Crouse) Ballard. She graduated from Lawrence High School in Fairfield in 1928. She worked summers at the Kimball House in Northeast Harbor, where she met her husband to be, Reginald S. Clark. They were married for more than 52 years, when he passed away in 1984. They lived most of those years in Southwest Harbor on the Island she loved. She was a member of the Southwest Harbor Congregational Church for many years. She belonged to the Southwest Harbor Senior Citizens and was past president of the group while living at the Ridge Apartments for seven years. She loved to play cards whether it be bridge with her friends or "May I" with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are five sons and three daughters and their spouses, Richard and Grace Clark of Spring Church, Pa., Connie Elizabeth and James Spear Sr. of Oxford, Md., Keith and Nancy Clark of Southwest Harbor, Janet and Ronald Cropley of Troy, Karen Young of Seal Cove, Mark and Laura Clark of Fort Wayne, Ind., Dean and Faith Clark of Virginia Beach, Va., and Kirk Clark of Somesville. She leaves 29 loving and adoring grandchildren and 31 special great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Sheldon Ballard of Troy and three sisters, Adaline Wood of Houston, Texas, Florence Wood of Baltimore, Md. and Joan Greenleaf of Lancaster, Calif., along with many, many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Hal A. Clark; son-in-law, John M. Young; two granddaughters, four sisters and four brothers.
Interment will be at Bayview Cemetery, Franklin, next to her late husband. (Bangor Daily News 7/30/2005)
