Elsie Marie Staub Smith Abrecht, 94, of Frederick, passed away at Frederick Memorial Hospital on March 19, 2012.

Born August 26, 1917 near Lewistown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Luther J. and Sarah Elizabeth (Baugher) Staub. She was the former wife of Lawrence E. Smith, and the widow of Austin "Ducky" Abrecht. Elsie worked at Frederick Tailoring Co. for many years. She and her husband Austin owned and operated Ducky & Elsie's Restaurant in Woodsboro, MD. After Austin passed away in 1988, Elsie retired to Taney Village Apartments where she lived and enjoyed the remainder of her life.

She is survived by sons Ray Smith and companion Edith Whipp of Thurmont, Robert Smith and wife Sharon of Walkersville, Lawrence Smith, Jr. and wife Joanne of Myersville, and Preston Smith and wife Emma of Hagerstown; and daughters, Betty Suthard of Frederick, and Faye Jaques of Mercersburg, P.A. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. Elsie is also survived by sisters Lillian Mock of Myersville and Evelyn Rose of South Carolina. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Manning; a son, Charles "Bud" Smith; great-grandchild, Kimberly Runk; four brothers, Samuel, Luther, James, and William Staub; and a sister, Edna Newcomer.

At Elsie's request there will be no viewing. Her wishes included cremation, followed by a graveside committal service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 7 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 US Rt. 15 N. in Frederick. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to a charity of choice .
