Gerald T. (Jerry) Lewis, age 71, of 555 County Home Rd., Meshoppen, Pa., passed away on Tuesday evening, June 7, 2011, at his home in Rush Twp., Susquehanna County, surrounded with his family at his bedside. Born in Sayre, Pa., on July 5,1939, he was the son of the late Earl C. (Red) Lewis Sr. and Emma Lee Salsman Lewis. Jerry graduated with the first class of Wyalusing Valley High School with the class of 1957. After graduation, Jerry worked on the Don Arthur Dairy Farm in Laceyville, Pa., and later at Cornell Manufacturing also in Laceyville, as a welder. He would enlist in the U.S. Air Force, in 1958, with a mission "to see the world." After his discharge from the service in 1963, he returned home to Laceyville, where he began working at Cornell's and later at GTE Sylvania. Jerry was a chemical supervisor at Sylvania, where he retired in 1997, after 31 years of service. In his spare time, Jerry was very involved with his daughters, and never missed an event that they were in. He was very active in the Laceyville Community, including the Laceyville Ambulance Assoc.; and president and coach in the Laceyville Baseball/Softball Assoc. He was a member of the Endless Mountains Bowling League, loved fishing with Freedom II Charter Assoc.; past Tuscarora twp. Supervisor; and would volunteer, whenever, he could help out a neighbor, a friend or the community. Jerry loved to hunt, fish, trap, gardening, construction, four-wheeling, and just being outdoors, or puttering in his yard or garage. In his later years he loved to spend time with his very special granddaughter, Ashlie Jo Ruhf. He was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Sally Jo Harford Lewis who passed away on Feb. 7, 1997. He is survived by his daughters, Carrie Ann and Monte Kelley of Laceyville, Pa., and Susan Lee and Dana Buckingham of Owego, N.Y.; and his very special granddaughter, Ashlie Jo Ruhf, of Laceyville, Pa.; four step-grandchildren, Timothy Kelly, Pamela Kelly, Jack Kelley and Jaden Buckingham. He is also survived by his wife, Helen Koromlan Lewis, with whom he celebrated their ninth anniversary being married on May 18, 2002; and his step children, Michael and Tammy Darling, of Montrose, Pa., Edward S. Darling and Cathy Wildoner, of Meshoppen, Pa. and Liz Spickerman, of Montrose, Pa.; and his step-grandchildren, Brian Darling, Kelly Darling, Kaitlin Spickerman, and Mercedes Spickerman. Jerry is also survived by his brother, Earl C. Lewis Jr., of Wyalusing, Pa., an aunt Alice Denison, of Forkston, Pa. and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, Pa., with Rev. Pat Newhart, long time family friend officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service on Saturday. Interment will be at a later date at the convenience of the family. Military services will be conducted at the funeral home by the members of the Rought Hall Post No. 510 American Legion, Dennis Strong Post No. 457 American Legion, and the Endless Mountains Post No. 3583 V.F.W.
