Greg L. Schuette, retired Kay County deputy sherriff, died on Monday, April 2, 2012, in Enid. He was 64.
A casual memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 6, in the chapel of Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Herb Raines officiating. The family will greet friends in the family gathering room following the service.
Gregory LeMarr Schuette was born Jan. 21, 1948, in Enid to Gregory Gearhardt Schuette and Celeste Belle LeMarr Schuette. Greg's family, which included his sister Marqua, lived in Tulsa until moving with his family to Oklahoma City in the early 1960s. There, he obtained his early education and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1966. Greg joined our United States Army and served our country until he was honorably discharged. He studied at OU before his law enforcement training.
Greg worked in law enforcement for many years, serving for 15 years as a police officer for the Blackwell Police Department. He then began working with the Kay County Sheriff's office where he served as deputy sheriff until his health forced him to retire in 2009. He was a certified Cleet instructor, Red Cross CPR instructor and was instrumental in the charter of the Fraternal Order of Police for the Blackwell Police Department.
He loved his job and especially his law enforcement "family." Greg also enjoyed camping, backyards BBQs and visiting with his family and friends. He loved people and was always interested in hearing their stories. Music was a huge part of Greg's life. Back in the day, he played the drums in a band and it was the start of a lifelong love for music. His favorite bands include the Beatles and any 60s music. He also enjoyed blues and jazz tunes.
His family includes longtime companion, Donna Lucas of Tonkawa, and her two sons, Larry and Ron Shroyer; two sons, Greg Coulter and his wife Michele of Arizona and Stan Schuette of Texas; one sister, Marqua Steely of Oklahoma City; and three grandchildren, Katie, Ellie, and John Coulter.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.
