Oella McCarley was born Oct. 4, 1903 in Circleville, Ohio to Edgar & Oella Tappan Lowman. Oella's father, Edgar died in 1904, leaving his wife a young widow with 2 small daughters to raise so the young widow and her daughter's moved in with her parents. The family remained in Circleville until 1919 when her parents decided to move to California, taking the Oella and her daughter's with them. The family settled in Pasadena where Oella graduated from High School. Oella then enrolled in Occidental College where she recieved her degree 1926. She began teaching in Cottage Grove, CA and it was there that she met Henry C. McCarley who had been a pilot in WWI and just been discharged from the Army. They were married on April 21, 1928. They moved to Highland Park, Fillmore and in 1937 to Oxnard. In 1942, the Army called Henry back into the Army as a Flight instructor to train the Pilots for WW2. The family resided in Lancaster CA on a farm during this time. After the War, Henry resumed his career as a car salesman and Oella became a bookkeeper and taught piano lessons. She was an accomplished pianist who loved music.
Henry died in 1971 and Oella moved to Santa Maria, CA to be near her daughter. She was a active Christian Scientist, volunteered for Community Concert Association, and enjoyed collecting plates & pewter. She died Oct. 5, 1997 after a short illness and is interred in the Dudley-Hoffman Memory Gardens "Tower of Light". . She is survived by her daughter Betty (Don) Webb of Santa Maria, her son's Lowman (Sue) McCarley of Walnut Creek, CA and Clyde Lee (Jayne) McCarley of Renton, WA - Grandchildren: David, Susan, Laura, Marilyn, Wayne, Stuart, Craig, Kent, Mike, Scott & Kelly and several Gt. Grandchildren.
