Miss Walter was born in Breda, Iowa to the Rev. Christian and Louise Fricke Walter in 1918. She graduated from Wall Lake High School, Wall Lake, Iowa. In 1937 she received her teacher's certificate from Buena Vista, College, Storm Lake, Iowa. She taught in rura schools, in Carroll Co., Iowa from 1937 to 1941 and later at Charter Oak Public Schools, Charter Oak, Iowa from 1943-45. In 1945 she moved to Hastings, Nebr. where she was taught at Morton Elementary School and became principal of Hawthorne Elementary School from 1945-56. In 1952, she received her bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, Nebr. and her masters's degree in 1960. She became an assistant professor of education at Hastings College in Hastings, Nebr. from 1960-83. She received an honorary doctorate degree in 1983 from Hastings College.
She was survived by three sisters; Mrs. Kenneth (Ruth) Meyer of Morton, Ill., Mrs. Gladys McManaman of Chico, Calif., Mrs. Rod (Eunice) Huntress of Helena, Ala.; a brother, Dr. James (Grace) Walter of Carmel, Calif.; and nine nieces and nephews.
Services were at the Butler-Volland Funeral Home.
