William B. Swett was the founder of New England Industrial School for the Deaf-Mutes , Beverly,Ma. ( Later known as Beverly School for the Deaf )
William was deaf as was his wife Margaret who died in 1907 and is buried with William. Also buried with them are children James , Addie and Nellie. Williams mother was deaf and his father was hearing. His grandfather Nahum was deaf and never educated. His grandmother was hearing and helped her husband with homemade sign languages to communicate. Henniker New Hampshire History Society donated 100 books to Beverly School for the Deaf that William B.Swett wrote . " Adventures of a Deaf Mute in the White Mountains" He also wrote 12 other short story books. By B.B. school graduate.
