Richard was the son of Abraham and Rebecca (O'Hare) Greenawalt. Husband of Anna Maria Pierce. Richard studied dentistry in Pittsburgh. He practiced for several years, his health failed and he moved back ot Sewickley Township in 1871. Then he moved to West Newton. Richard was a director and stockholder of the Farmers and Merchants Bank, a member of the town council and owner of a public hall in town. He was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church. Richard enlisted on Septembere 4, 1861 and served in the Civil War with Co. E 105th PA Vol Inf called "Wildcats" and served 20 months in the Peninsula campaign. Later he was transferred to Knapp's Battery. Richard and wife Anna are entombed in a vault under the Chapel near the exit of the cemetery.Private in Company E, 105th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (Wildcat Regt) Civil War-Union Army. Date of Muster into Service: 4 September 1861. Discharged: 9 December 1862 on Surgeon's Certificate.
