Former Rector's Widow
Dies In Louisville

Funeral arrangements have not been completed today for Mrs. George C. Abbitt, widow of the former rector of Grace Episcopal Church, who died in Louisville over the week-end.

Original plan was to return the body to Hopkinsville for services at Grace Church but it was uncertain today whether the funeral will be in Hopkinsville or Louisville. Arrangements have been held up pending the arrival of a son, Macon Abbitt, who was in New York on business at the time of her death.

Death of Mrs. Abbitt in Louisville was attributed to complications resulting from a broken hip sustained last spring.

Mrs. Abbitt was the former Emma Josephine Auguste, a member of an old Virginia family of Hugenot descent. She was married in 1889 to George C. Abbitt who became rector of Grace Episcopal Church in June, 1902. He served as rector for 27 years until his death May 15, 1929. In June 1927, the 25th anniversary of his rectorship, a service in his honor was held at the First Baptist Church at which tribute was paid him by the members of the Ministerial Association and leading citizens of the city. Mr. Abbitt was known as the "community pastor".

Mrs. Abbitt was of a retiring nature, but her intelligence and sweet, Christian spirit made her greatly beloved by the members of the congregation of Grace Church and others fortunate enough to be admitted to her friendship.

Two sons survive: Macon Abbitt, an architect in St. Louis, and William Henry Abbitt, professor of physics at the State College of Washington, in Pullman, Wash.
