Velura (also called Lura, Lara, and Laura) Elizabeth Farley was born in Summers County, to Robert Wilson Farley and Louisa Anna Farley. She was the oldest child. Her siblings were James William, Joseph Cephus, Viola A., Sarah A. and Olza Farley.
In the 1900 US Federal Census, Velura was still single, living with her parents, Robert, age 42, and Louisa, age 39. Her siblings also at home, were James, age 17; Cephus, age 17; Viola, age 8; Olza, age 1. They are farmers. They live at Ellison, Jumping Branch District Summers County, WV. Her soon to be husband and his BOWLINE family are neighbors. They were also farmers.
At age 22, she married Thomas Jefferson Bolen (also called BOLING, BOWLEN, BOWLINE, BOWLING), age 20, on July 1, 1903. They lived at Ellison Ridge, Summers County, WV., where they were farmers.
Their children were, Winnie Ellen (my grandmother), Lawrence Lively, Lennie Mae, Willard Clayton, Woodrow Wilson, Zelphia Ann, and Luther Edward Bolen.
Velura died from Tuberculosis on July 28, 1924. Her youngest, Luther Edward was only 5 years old. Luther, who never married, and his dad died in 1940 from a tragic house fire.
