Jackie was the middle daughter of the late Jeff and Sadie Rivers. She was born on May 30, 1924, at Twisp, WA, and graduated from Winthrop High School. While in school, she met Samuel Adelbert Hotchkiss, married him November 4, 1944, at Santa Anna, CA, and accompanied him throughout his military and civilian career. She found Civil Service employment in Germany, California, and Alaska. Her last job was as a Magistrate of the State District Court in Whittier for the State of Alaska Judicial Division. While in Alaska, she enjoyed family hunting and fishing (especially salmon) trips and a good game of pinochle. Following Samuel's death, she began spending her winters in Texas, where she met Jerry Barnes of Sequim, WA. They eventually married and made their home in Sequim. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, good pinochle, and was a member of the Elks Lodge. Several years after Jerry's death, she moved to Everett, WA and followed this by a move to Wenatchee, WA, in 2009.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Samuel Hotchkiss and Jerry Barnes; brother, Homer Rivers; sisters, Elma Pries and Mildred Dow; and grandson, Chris Hotchkiss. She leaves behind sons, Calvin "Cal" Hotchkiss of Wenatchee, WA and Samuel Jr. (Ginny) Hotchkiss of Chantilly, VA; grandsons, Casey (Alicia) Hotchkiss of Maple Valley, WA, Samuel William Hotchkiss of San Diego, CA and Samuel John Hotchkiss of Chantilly, VA; and great-granddaughter, Samantha Rose Hotchkiss of Maple Valley, WA.

A Memorial Service will be held later this spring at the Sullivan Cemetery in Winthrop, WA. Online condolences may be left at Heritage Memorial Chapel. Arrangements by Heritage Memorial Chapel, East Wenatchee.
