Local Woman Dies
In Nashville Hospital

Mrs. Mamie Thompson Bassett, 85-year-old resident of the Cox Mill Road and widow of Dr. Frank H. Bassett, died last night at the Mid-State Baptist Hospital.

She had been in failing health for the past year, and her condition became critical a few weeks ago. She had been confined to the Nashville hospital for about a week.

Funeral services will be held at the grave at Riverside Cemetery tomorrow afternoon. The body will rest at the residence until time for the service.

A member of one of the pioneer families of this county, Mrs. Bassett was born in Hopkinsville, the daughter of the late C. A. and Mame Marshall Thompson. Her father was a hardware merchant here for many years.

She was married to Dr. Bassett in 1898. He preceded her in death in 1950.

As long as her health permitted, Mrs. Bassett was actively interested in both civic and religious affairs. She was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church, and her services tomorrow will be conducted by her pastor, Dr. William Peyton Thurman.

Survivors include one son, Frank Bassett Jr. of this city, one daughter, Mrs. John Jerrell of Atlanta; and four grandchildren, Frank Bassett III of Louisville, Mrs. Wayne Clark of Honolulu, Hawaii, Dr. John A. Jerrell Jr. of Nashville, and Frank Bassett Jerrell of Atlanta.

One son, Charles Thompson Bassett died in 1915.

The pallbearers will be Pax King, Gordon Cayce, Henry Abernathy, Herbert Lee McPherson, Herndon Waller, Downer Buckley, Gilmer Pursley and Joe Glover.
