MONIKA GADBERRY Anchorage resident Monika Gadberry, 50, died March 31 at home. Mrs. Gadberry was born April 23, 1943, in Berlin.
She moved to Alaska in 1965. She married Donald Powell and they had one son, Michael. After her divorce from Mr. Powell, she married George Gadberry in 1972.
She has been employed with Electric, Inc. since 1971.
Mrs. Gadberry was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. She was active in LifeLight Bible class and Sunday morning Bible classes.
Mrs. Gadberry was an expert skier and a private pilot. She enjoyed reading most of all.
Her earliest memory was of being passed from knee to knee by Russian soldiers in a Berlin bomb shelter at the end of World War II. She remained in Berlin through high school and then spent one year in Britain working for a family as an indentured servant. Her family made the statement that, "She looked forward to retirement in Kona, Hawaii."
Mrs. Gadberry is survived by her husband, George Gadberry, of Anchorage; her son, U.S. Army Specialist Michael Powell of Fort Irwin, Calif.; and step- children, Jan Davis of Monroe, Wash., Susan and Greg Gadberry of Steep Falls, Maine; and their children Ben and Brian Gadberry.
Memorials may be sent to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 8100 Arctic Blvd., Anchorage, 99518.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. April 6 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 8100 Arctic Blvd., with Pastor Chris Reinke officiating. There will be no public visitation.
Service arrangements are by Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
