George Francis Forsythe was born on November 18th, 1824 in Candor, Tioga County, New York; the son of George Forsythe and Mary Chapman. He married in about 1848 to Betsy Strait, they would have four daughters and three sons. Their daughter was born sometime in 1849 but died soon after birth before being named. Their oldest son, John George, was born in June of 1851. Their next child was a daughter, Julia, born in October of 1854; then another daughter, Sarah, born in September of 1856; a son, George Franklin, born in June 1863; a daughter, Charlotte, born in January of 1866; and lastly a son, Clayton, born in June of 1869. George Francis worked as a carpenter and made a modest living for his family. He died on December 23, 1871 in Candor, Tioga County, New York, of unknown causes. He is buried at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Candor.
