Wilbur Pete Hoffman, 91, of Ashland, Kansas passed from this life on April 7, 2012. He was born in Claflin, Kansas March 18, 1921 to Frank and Francis (Kreir) Hoffman.

The Hoffman family moved from Kansas to Colorado when Wilbur was a boy. When he got older Wilbur returned to Kansas and worked in the Civil Conservation Corps before joining the US Navy in 1942. He served his country as a Gunner's Mate in the Navy until 1946. Upon returning to Kansas, and the Ashland area, Wilbur worked for Jess Harper on the Harper ranch and helped his Uncle Ed Hoffman farm. On May 10, 1949 Wilbur took Geraldine Brown as his wife at the St. Mary's Church in Sitka, Kansas. The couple made their home in Ashland and to this union two children were born.

Wilbur worked in a janitorial position for 36 years at the school, hospital and court house. Along with doing odd jobs around town Wilbur enjoyed mowing lawns. He took great pride in his wife, two children, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family. Wilbur was a very kind, loving man. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Frank, Jr and Leo; two sisters, Bea Murray and Bernice Thomas; and a granddaughter, Cassandra Le Hoffman.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, P.O. Box 577, Ashland, Kansas 67831 or the Ashland Senior Citizen's Center, P.O. Box 73, Ashland, Kansas 67831.
