On August 7, 1959, he was united in marriage with Mary Lou Burtin at Buffalo, Missouri. This union was blessed with two children.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou, his son, Scottie and daughter, Karen Sue, all of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Bennett of Long Lane; 3 brothers; Bob, of Kansas City, Kansas; Rex, of Kansas City, Missouri; and Ralph, of Richland, Missouri; six sisters; Mrs. Bethel Pipkin, of Kansas City, Missouri; Mrs. Frances Pickney, of Buffalo, Janice, Letha, Linda and Nancy Ann Bennett of Long Lane; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Bennett, of Long Lane; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elbridge Cheek, of Long Lane; and many other relatives and friends.
Jim will be sadly missed by his family and friends, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 1, 1967 at 2:00 p.m. in the Cedar Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Bliss officiating. The church choir sang, "The Unclouded Day", accompanied by Mrs. Lula Holland, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mason sang, "I Shall Not Be a Stranger" and "Come to the Savior Today". Escorts were: Eldon Barnes, Jesse Harryman, Bill Mason, Willie Mathews, Buck Nixon, and George Oldham. Honorary pallbearers were; Forrest Triplett and Howard Van Zandt. Interment was in Cedar Ridge Cemetery under direction of the Montgomery Funeral Home of Buffalo.
