Hilda J. Fawcett, 90 of Neodesha, passed away early Sunday morning June 12, 2011 at the Wilson Medical Center in Neodesha, KS.

Funeral Services, under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel, will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Neodesha with Reverend Frank Morgan, pastor of the United Methodist Church and Reverend Dave Cheshier, pastor of the Christ Church of Neodesha officiating. Burial will be in the Neodesha Cemetery. Friends may call to register at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The family has suggested memorials to United Methodist Church of Neodesha or The Neodesha Arts Association and memorials can be left in care of the funeral home.

The daughter of Charley A. and Ruth A. (Young) Crumley, she was born January 5, 1921 in Neodesha, Kansas. She attended and graduated from Neodesha High School where she was a cheerleader for three years and was active in drama. She then went on to attend Independence Community College and Washburn University.

She was united in marriage to J. Leon Fawcett on January 18, 1943 at the United Methodist Church in Neodesha. Mr. Fawcett preceded her in death on March 11, 2004.

Hilda was a former owner with her husband Leon of the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home and Airosprayer Manufacturing Co. She was very active in the Girl Scout organization and served as a leader for 15 years. She did leadership training for camping programs in the Meadowlark Council for several years. She was also active in civic affairs; serving on the Neodesha Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Neodesha Arts Association Board of Directors. She served many roles at the Arts Association and co-directed many of their productions. She was chosen as the Chamber of Commerce "Women of the Year" in 1978 and the Neodesha Alumni Association's "Alumna of the Year" in 1985 and the Beta Sigma Phil Sorority's "Lady of the Year" in 1988. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Chapter T-P.E.O. and the 20th Century Club. She and her husband traveled several times abroad, she was an avid racing fan and St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. She and Leon would annually take their grandchildren to St. Louis for games, and regularly attend the Indianapolis 500 auto races. She was a proud Neodesha Bluestreak supporter and attended all of her grandchildrens' school and sporting events.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Michael Fawcett of Los Osos, CA; a sister, Sue (Crumley) Nunn of Georgetown, TX; seven grandchildren, John Fawcett of Eudora, KS, Jason Fawcett of Middlebury, VT, Daniel Fawcett of San Francisco, CA, Brooke Harper Baird of Neodesha, KS, Quinn Harper, Abbey Harper Thomas and Wyatt Harper all of Kansas City, MO.; and six great-grandchildren, Brynn Baird of Lawrence, KS, Justice Baird of Neodesha, KS, Jack Thomas of Kansas City, MO, Mason Fawcett, Grace Fawcett and Justin Fawcett all of Eudora, KS.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Deena, who passed away July 20, 1991, and two brothers; Laddie Crumley and Kenneth Crumley.
