From Helena (MT) Independent Record 5/28/2004:

Dorothy was born to Gene and Myrtle Muir on their family farm in Clearfield, Iowa, on March 8, 1923. She grew up in Clearfield during the Depression and graduated from high School on the brink of World War II. During the war, she worked for Mountain Bell in Des Moines.

She met Blaine Tennis on a blind date after the war was over. They were married Aug. 18, 1951, in St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines. This began Dorothy's life journey as a "Forest Service wife." Blaine and Dorothy were married more than 40 years, until Blaine's death in 1992.

Together they raised four children and moved from Pine Ridge, S.D., to Helena, Phillipsburg, Butte, Ennis and Harlowton. They retired in Helena. Dorothy spent her last eight years in the loving care of Shelby House in East Helena.

Dorothy was a wife, mother and homemaker. While living in Harlowton, she worked at Wheatland Memorial Hospital for more than 10 years before she retired.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Blaine.

She led her family through many of life's hardships with grace and she celebrated the good times with joy. The world had her for 81 years, but her spirit will live on through her family and many friends.

Dorothy was a true lady and was very proud of her Scottish heritage. She will be remembered for her big, sparkly blue eyes, gentle heart, stiff backbone and infectious laugh.
