He married Madora Jane Bailey (1915-1988) July 30, 1935 at Colby, Thomas County, Kansas. Two children were born to Lewis and Madora (Dora), Robert Ray (1936-1970) and Phyllis Ann (1941-1982). Ray started his life as a cowboy on a ranch in western Kansas, after marriage he became a welder living in various locations in the USA, eventually settling in Shell City, Vernon County, Missouri.
