CARLSON
August C., was born in Moore at the beginning of Oklahoma statehood, June 14, 1907 to Oscar Carl and Marie McGuire Carlson. He passed away Sept. 1, 1994 in Bethany, across the street from the family homestead.

He was a graduate of Oklahoma A&M, taught school and served as Superintendent, then attended Cumberland College of Law, beginning a law career spanning over one-half century. He proudly served his country in the Air Force for 30 years, earning the Legion of Merit for his work in the Judge Advocate Corps. "Gus', as he was known in the military, retired as full Colonel. During his private practice, A.C., as he was to his family, served as City Attorney early in Bethany and in similar capacity later for Del City and as Councilman, Ward 4, Bethany.

A.C. and Quilla McGoodwin of Woodford, Carter County, were married in Ardmore, April 14, 1933 with hope, faith and love in the face of the Great Depression. Their wedding banquet was a shared milkshake before returning to their teaching jobs 100 miles apart. Quilla was being paid in script for her toil. Their love would conquer many challenges. In 1983, that love would brightly beam at their Golden Wedding Anniversary, celebrated at their longtime spiritual home, Linwood Methodist Church, Oklahoma City.

Mr. Carlson, who enjoyed being Mr. Route 66 in Bethany, is survived by his son, Gilbert and wife, Watzell Carlson of Houston; grandsons, Christopher and Derek of College Station, Tx.; his beloved and dutiful sister, Gladys and husband, Ervyl Bross; and very special first cousin, Elizabeth "Betty" Carlson, all of the city; as well as many other friends and family members scattered across the country.

As with Quilla's funeral in 1984, A.C.'s nephews will serve as pallbearers. For those desiring, contributions in memory of Mr. Carlson may be made to Westside Y.M.C.A., 3400 Mueller, Bethany 73008. Services will be held at Bill Merritt Memorial Chapel, Bethany at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, the 3rd of September, 1994. Interment Will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens (Bill Merritt Funeral Service)
