She became a civil servant working for the Navy Department in Washington DC during World War II and later transferred to Tinker AFB where she retired in June 1964. Violet was an avid and talented artist, winning many awards with private showings.
She is survived by her brother, Roy Byrd of Port Isabel, TX; son, Terry Starr of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Olga Penny Mayfield of OKC; grandchildren, Terry Mayfield of OKC; Linda Jones of Norman; Kay Medcalf of Tuttle; Michael Starr of Atlanta, GA; and Michelle Starr of Atlanta, GA; and eight great grandchildren. Services will be 2 pm Tuesday, June 23 at Guardian West Chapel with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.
