He was born February 17, 1939 in Prairie City, the son of Henry Harrison and Alice (Marrow) Thompson. He married Norma "Jeanie" Havens on July 25, 1959 in Smithfield, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are two children, Roland "Tug" (Nita) E. Thompson Jr. and Alice (Steve) Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Gene enjoyed woodworking, playing cards and marbles. His true passion was playing music. Gene's musical talent and passion was inherited from his father.
Burial will be in Marietta Cemetery.
