Born in Baden, Germany to Thersesia Hurst, and although her death certificate states John Huber as her father, her birth certificate indicates her father was unknown and she was illegitimate.

She Immigrated to the U.S.A on May 15, 1863 with her mother Theresia Hurst from Baden on the LeHavre out of France and settled in Cincinnati, OH. According to Agnes' grandson (Joseph L. Doerr) while on the boat ride over, Agnes' mother was ill and Agnes was wandering the boat. She somehow fell over, and managed somehow to hold onto the boat. A sailor heard her screams and saved her. As a young woman, Agnes worked as a chair caner.

Agnes married Jacob Fredrick Doerr on May 21, 1885. She had three children; Jacob Henry (1888-1951), Mary Teresa (1892-1977), and Joseph Edward (1896-1975).

She resided at 5618 Ridge Avenue during her marriage, and until about 4 years until her death when she lived with her daughter. During the Great Depression, her son Joseph and his family moved in with Agnes. The home, less than 800 sqft, was incredibly tight for the 8 people living in there. Agnes gave her room to her son, his wife and their daughter, while she slept in the living room. The four grandsons all stayed in the attic. Agnes was a hard worker and not one who required much sleep. During the Depression, she tended to a garden to help ensure her family remained fed, and would walk down to the creek behind her home at midnight to collect water to water the garden with her son.

She lived with Mary up in Middletown, OH at the time of her death from Bronco Pneumonia. A strong minded woman, Agnes and her husband are buried at different cemeteries because at the time of his death, she was angry with him about his drinking, which ultimately caused his death (he fell down their steep basement steps while drunk.)
