Inside the church, there is a Memorial beside the altar to those 35 men who lost their lives in World War I, and who had a connection to the parish.
The Memorial is inscribed 'Died fighting for God and right and liberty', and not the usual style of 'For King and Country'.

The men named included 16 former members of the 17th company The Boys' Brigade, which was based in St Matthew's.

None of these individuals are buried in the adjoining churchyard. Those whose names have been identified, are connected to their grave by a hyperlink.
