Margie Ashley Drake, age 97, of National Healthcare, Anderson, formerly of Belton, SC died Saturday, May 30, 2009.
Born in Anderson County on June 15, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Josh and Mae McCurry Ashley. She taught school in a one room school and retired from Marshall Primary School in Belton for a total of 37 years of service. She was a member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for many years.
Survivors include one son, Robert M. "Bobby" Drake and his wife, Donna. Daughter-in-law, Patsy C. Drake of Simpsonville. Four grandsons, Tim Drake and his wife Pam of Belton, SC, John Drake of Greenville, SC, Bill Drake and wife Chelly of Round Rock, Texas and Michael Drake of Escondido, California. Two great grandsons, Mathew Drake of Belton, SC. and Chase Drake of Round Rock, Texas. One great granddaughter, Alaina Drake of Round Rock, Texas. One sister, Helen Wright of Honea Path, SC.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Jesse Wade Drake and son, Henry A. Drake; two brothers, John Tom Ashley of Belton, SC. and R.T. Ashley of Orangeburg, SC; two sisters, Lena Ashley of Belton, SC and Cornelia Mitchell of Honea Path, SC.
The funeral service will be held 11:00a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Mount Bethel Baptist Church in Belton, SC, with Dr. Ron Culbertson officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service Tuesday from 9:30am until 11:00am at Mount Bethel Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mount Bethel Baptist Church Love Fund, 2603 Due West Highway, Belton, SC 29627.
