Bob died at St. Peter's Hospital in Helena from complications of pneumonia.
Bob was born Dec. 10, 1921, on the family farm near Cove, Ore., to Charles Hancock and Brooks (George) Hancock.
After graduation from Cove High School, Bob enlisted in the Navy on July 18, 1942, in Seattle, Wash. He served his country from July 18, 1942, to Aug. 10, 1945, when he was honorably discharged. During World War II Bob served in the South Pacific.
In 1945, Bob married Jean Horner and together they had a son, Gary Hancock. Bob and Jean made their home in Missoula where Bob worked at Westmont Tractor from 1969-1981. Both his wife Jean and son Gary preceded Bob in death.
He then worked for Missoula Cartage until retiring. In 1985, he married Lorraine Reese from Helena and they made their home in Missoula until moving to York in 1998.
"Poppa" loved his grandkids, camping, fishing, woodworking, gardening, and reading. He especially loved reading about WWII because he was so very proud of serving his country.
Bob was also preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Vic Tarter of Cove, Ore., and nephew Nels Tarter of Seattle.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine of York; mother and father-in-law Archie and Nola Smith of Helena; sister Phyllis Tarter of Cove; nephew Chuck (Retha) Tarter; Gary's sons Jon (Laura) and Rob; and four great-grandchildren.
