88 years old at the time of his death, Peter was a son of Henry A. and Sophia Clinard Burton. (They once lived in Davidson Co., in Thomasville.) His known siblings were James, Alonzo A., Charles M., Junius A. (Oscar); Harley or Hillrey??, Dora B., and Mary L. Burton. He married Elfleta May ("Fleta") Crews, a daughter of Montford Stokes and Charlotte Jones Crews on Feb. 26, 1896 in Stokes Co. NC. They had at least 10 known children, as follows: Annie M., Clarence M., Eliza E., Edley A.??, Lee Roy, Arietta B., Sophia G., Della P., William C., Irenya M., and Virginia D. Burton. They lived near Walnut Cove, on Blakely Rd. and later on the Madison Rd. These names came from census records. After Elfleta's death he married Bessie H. (unknown). His obituary states that he was survived by daughters, Mrs. Herbert Boles, Mrs. Eliza Boles, Mrs. Otho Shelton, and Mrs. Gilbert Martin, all of Walnut Cove. Also Mrs. Will Lankford of King, NC, Mrs. Calvin Smith of Pine Hall, NC, and sons Allen Burton of Ottawa, Alberta, Canada; Leroy Burton of Winston-Salem, and Bill Burton of Madison, NC. He also had 40 grandchildren at the time of his death.

¨CREWS REUNION---Germanton, July 23---The Crews reunion will be held at the home of Peter Burton near Walnut Cove on the 2nd Sunday in August. All friends are invited to come and bring a basket.¨
