A wonderful and well spent life came to a quiet close at 10:30 a.m. on November 7, 2006 at Nacogdoches Medical Center in Nacogdoches, TX.
Born in Shelby County, John was the son of the late Matilda Bluford Biggers Sparrow and the Late Willie Biggers.
John united with the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church in the Bland Lake Community at an early age and later united with the Reed Chapel Baptist Church in San Augustine, TX. John was not just a member of the church; he served as teacher of the Men’s Sunday School Class, served on the scholarship committee, finance committee, and sang in the senior choir and male chorus.
He attended public schools in Neuville, TX and C. H. Daniels High School in Center, TX.
John went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree at Butler College in Tyler, TX. He also did extensive studies at North Texas State University in Denton, TX, Texas Southern University in Houston, TX, and Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX.
Upon graduation he began his work career as a substitute in the Center School System, and then got a permanent job in the Buna School System. After working in Buna a number of years, he got a permanent job in Center. He retired from the Center System after some 33 years of service.
John served as the secretary of the Deep East Texas Electric Co-Op Board.
Somewhere it would be fitting to say…”The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.”
John found a virtuous woman when he met Mary L. Boyer. They were married July 29, 1962. This union was blessed with one child, Mary Elizabeth Biggers Sanders, affectionately known as “Liz”.
Along with his wife Mary and daughter “Liz” of Longview, he leaves to cherish his memories one brother, Wayne Sparrow {Francine} of Orange, TX, one precious granddaughter, Mariah Elysse Sanders of Longview, nephew, Justin Sparrow of Orange, one uncle, Arious Bluford of San Augustine, sisters-in-law Murline Lane and Jurline Hunt {Roland}, both of Lufkin, TX, Opal Boyer of Haywood, CA, Betty Robinson {Robert} of Mansfield, LA, Brothers-in-law Calvin Boyer {Marjorie} of San Augustine and Ira Boyer {Lola} of Houston, TX, aunts-in-law Ruby Biggers of Center and Vera Bluford of San Augustine, goddaughter Lynn Sampson Haten {Chester} and children Olivia and Chelsea of Arlington, TX, and Marchandra Boyer of San Augustine, and many other relatives and friends.
