I am a descendant of the Drinkard family. You manage a memorial for a beloved woman of our family, Kitty Drinkard. I don't know if you want to add this information to your memorial, but here it is...

The information I have on Kitty:

The Drinkard family had a black woman who lived with them as a domestic servant throughout her life. Her name was Kitty Dumas, but she later became known as Kitty Drinkard.

She was born in Clarke County, Choctaw Corner, Alabama, to Lucy Dumas (age 29, born about 1841 in Alabama). She is found in the 1870 census p. 1 living as a domestic servant to Sarah Ann Hudson-Trawick-Drinkard.

Next, Kitty is found in 1880 as an 11 year old girl living in Precinct 5, Grayson County, Texas. She is in the household with Sarah Ann Hudson-Trawick-Drinkard and her family.

In 1890, there are no existing records.

In 1900, She is found in Justice Precinct 1, Brown County, Texas, living with the Evans Ithmar Drinkard family, son of Sarah Ann Hudson-Trawick-Drinkard.

In 1910, she is found in Justice Precinct 1, Brown County, Texas, still living with Evans Drinkard’s family.

In 1920, she is found in Justice Pricinct 1, Brown County, Texas, living with Evans Drinkard’s wife, Mary Mary Ann “Mollie” Trawick-Drinkard. Evans is deceased.

In 1930, she is found living in the Sam C. and Louise Morris family in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas. Sam appears to be a grocer.

In 1947, she is found living on Avenue C in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas (Brownwood, Texas, City Directory 1947). Supposedly she lives behind Martha Trawick-Etheridge’s house.

In 1949, she is found living on Avenue C in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas (Brownwood, Texas, City Directory 1949).

She dies 4 Mar 1954 in the Austin State Hospital in Austin, Travis, Texas from generalized arteriosclerosis and gangrene of the right leg, contributory issues are senility. Records indicate she had her right leg amputated two days before her death.
