ASHTON. July 5th — Funeral services for John Warnke, Sr., 68, who died suddenly at his home in Ashton Friday of a heart attack were held Tuesday afternoon, July 5, in the Community Methodist Church with the Rev. Woodrow D. Harris, officiating. Warnke was born November 5, 1897, at Hemelingen, Germany, to Herman and Marie Nordloh Warnke. He attended schools in Germany and married Henny Warnke, November 19, 1921 in Uslar, Germany. He was a railroad engineer in Germany and immigrated to America in July, 1925. He settled at Ashton where he worked on his brother-in-law's farm until he purchased his own farm a mile south of Ashton. He lived there until November, 1964, when he retired and moved into Ashton. Survivors include his widow, and two sons, Herman Warnke, and John H. Warnke, Jr., attending Oregon State University, Corvallis; eight grandchildren, three brothers and one sister, all of them living in Germany, who are Herman, Frederick, and Herbert, and Mrs. Gesine Bussmann. The Rev. Harris gave the opening sentences and prayer, lessons from the Old and New Testaments and the message. Life sketch was read by Donna Steinmann; two musical numbers were presented by Mac Reynolds, accompanied by Ruth Murdoch and Dorothy Harris and Erma Hubbard. Closing prayer and benediction were offered by the Rev. Harris and prelude and postlude music were played by Pat Sturm. Floral arrangements were directed by members of WSCS. Pall bearers were Herbert Steinmann, Fred Corcilius, Lee Cordingley, Vic Marotz, Tom Holcomb, and Laurence Orme. Interment was in Pineview Cemetery, under the direction of the Robert Bean Funeral Home.
