Officer Paul R. Deguch was a South Bend Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty in 1997. He was the son of Richard W. "Dick" Deguch and Lucy K. Flatoff. He was married and had three children.

Corporal Paul Deguch was shot and killed while questioning a suspect. Corporal Deguch had stopped the suspect who was riding a bike in a high drug traffic area and while patting him down the suspect produced a handgun and shot him several times, including once in the head. Corporal Deguch died approximately one hour later at a local hospital. Gregory Dickens Jr., 16 years old at the time, was arrested three hours later and charged with murder. He was convicted and is now serving a life sentence. Corporal Deguch is survived by his wife, 2 sons, and a daughter.
