Jearold "Jerry" Dee Buttars, of Rexburg and formerly of Idaho Falls, died May 27, 2004, at this home. He had been under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho. He was born August 11, 1931, in Ammon, to James and Myrtle Carter Buttars. He grew up and attended schools in the Ammon and Idaho Falls area. He served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve from June 5, 1951 to October 22, 1956. On April 17, 1951, he married Laura Ball in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She died December 23, 1995. He married Marilyn Kaufman June 14, 1996, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple and they made their home in Rexburg. He was employed at Westinghouse for 17 years, then owned and operated Jerry's 66 Service Station for 10 years. Following a brief retirement, he returned to work and taught auto mchanics for 13 years at Bonneville High School. He was the game manager at the high school and supervised many sporting events and chaperoned numerous dances over the years. Jearold was an active member of the LDS Church. He held many positions including Elder's quorum president, counselor in the bishopric, high councilman, and counselor to the stake mission president. His most recent calling was in the high priest quorum presidency. Jearold and Marilyn served a mission in the Westington D.C. Temple from July 2000 to June 2001. He enjoyed camping, hunting, traveling, spending time with his family and the highlight of his week was working in the temple. Jerry made and kept friends easily because of his outgoing personality. He will be missed by everyone. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Buttars of Rexburg; children, Steven (Julie) Buttars of Idaho Falls, Kent (Dahl) Buttars, Kevin (Sandra) Buttars both of Iona, Eric (Julie) Buttars of Ammon and Shalyce (Brian) Anderson of Ogden; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; step-chidlren, Shane Kaufman of Alta, Wyo., Lauri (Criag) Forbush of Parker, Lisa (Kip) Richards of Tremonton, Utah and Ryan (Trudi) Kaufman of Tetonia; 15 step-grandchildren; siblings, Jean (Richard) Black of Mission Hills, Calif., Harold (Phyllis) Buttars of Idaho Falls, Beverly (Robert) Black of California, Dale (Melba) Buttars of Iona and Richard Buttars of Boise. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Laura; his parents, James and Myrtle Buttars; sisters, Donnetta Ross and Helen Gray; a brother LaVon Buttars; and one step-granddaughter.
