OBITUARY

Alice La Rue Weigand was born June 12, 1918, and passed away August 3, 1990. The daughter of Henry and Margaret [Witt] Hildebrand, she was born on the Charles Brinkman farm northeast of Stafford where the family resided. Alice attended school at Bedford and Lulu Valley and graduated from Stafford High School in 1935. She married Marvin Weigand June 10, 1943, in the Calvary Baptist Church parsonage. To this union four children were born - Verna, Bill, Brenda and Kathie.

Alice was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church. Throughout the years she participated in many church-related positions and activities. In recent years women's Missionary Fellowship became her main focus of interest and involvement.

Many in the Stafford comunity remember Alice as the carrier of the Wichita Eagle Beacon and the Pratt Tribune newspapers. For nearly 30 years, the Weigand family delivered newspapers. When the children left home, Alice took over the route with the aid of her 88 year old aunt, JoHannah Fischer. In December 1983 she was recognized by the Eagle-Beacon for her years of superior performance to the Stafford Community.

In 1968 Stafford District Hospital contacted Alice to work in the Dietary Department. She accepted the offer and continued to work in that capacity until the time of her death.

Alice touched many lives with her gently, unassuming manner. She was patient, understanding, and self-denying with everyone she met. She loved her church, her family and community and was unending in her service to all of those.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, Bob, and an infant brother.

Survivors include: one son, Bill, Stafford, Va.; three daughters, Verna Taylor, Stafford, Brenda Jenkins, Neosho, Mo., and Kathie Spare, St. John; one brother, Alfred Hildebrand, Stafford; two sisters, Gladys Fritzemeier and Lucille Moore, both of Stafford; and seven grandchildren.

Furneral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church, Stafford, with the Rev. Jim Derman officiating. Burial will be in the Stafford Cemetery, Stafford.

Memorials may be sent to the Stafford District Hospital or the church.
